Adventure World: Adventure Outpost

 

    Something strange blows here in the desert winds. Here in this 1930s Egyptian expedition site, some strange things are tied to the ancient ruins. Here, you can follow in the footsteps of Indiana Jones and try to figure out what is behind all of this peculiar activity happening in this otherwise normal explorer outpost.

    You first walk into the outpost, which consists of old Egyptian buildings dating back to the 1930s. Sallah's Oasis offers food for hungry explorers while Treasures of Egypt sells Egyptian merchandise. Around this marketplace is also where you can sign up for Wilderness Explorers and you can even sign up for a new area-wide experience called Explorations of the Lost Desert Ruins, where you use a bunch of clues to find lost treasure, going on the rides and looking in some of the shops and restaurants to do so. This tells you the mystery of the ruins, and in the end, you get to help Indiana Jones himself find the lost treasure in a groundbreaking new attraction, but we'll get to that later on. Around this area is Desert Moon Bazaar and Aki Ramu Restaurant, both of which are based around Egypt's food and culture. Indiana Jones' Epic Stunt Show Spectacular is found in the area, but instead of showing the movie magic behind scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it gives away an explorer clue and depicts Indy fleeing from Nazi mercenaries, who want a lost amulet that he has. This is the first attraction visited on the explorations adventure.

    Outside of the bazaar is the archaeological site. Here, you can investigate the pillars and statues, take a ride to Asian Gulf on the Adventure World Streamer Line, or dig through the Digging Spot, which is like Disney's Animal Kingdom's boneyard but with Egyptian stuff instead of bones, and find another attraction clue for the explorations. Nearby that is Pharaoh's Revenge, a roller coaster that is similar to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril, the Indiana Jones roller coaster at Disneyland Paris. It is a lot like that, except with Egyptian ruins instead of Indian ruins and the disembodied voice of "the Pharaoh" booming around you along the way. This ride gives away another clue. Expedition Eats is a food stand nearby.

    Over near that area is a pyramid, where Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Sun Mask. The backstory behind this ride is that there was a mask given to a pharaoh (the same one in Pharaoh's Revenge) by the Sun god Ra, and when he died, the Pharaoh commanded that the mask was buried in a temple. However, the temple was secretly constructed by Set, god of chaos, who plotted to gain the mask for himself although he couldn't find it. In 1937, Indiana Jones and his old Chinese sidekick, Short Round (from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) went exploring these ruins and noticed them to be cursed. Indy went exploring all parts of the ruins and discovered that there was an ancient tomb that could be opened with four artifacts: an amulet, the Sun Mask, the Pharaoh's Stone, and the Goblet of Osiris (which he took from the Digging Spot). With the Sun Mask being the last thing he needed, expedition parties went in the Temple to find it for him, but a few of them disappeared. Indy went in to look for them and the mask, but then he disappeared. So Short Round becomes the "Sallah" of the ride (meaning he's the one sending guests into the temple in the jeeps) and sends in guests in on jeeps to find Indy and the mask. This ride is different than its Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea versions, both in track and with things, although it still uses things from the films alongside John Williams' score of the original trilogy. For examples, the Gates of Doom are renamed Gates of the Underworld, the snake statues are replaced by Anubis statues, there is no bug room, mummy room, or snake room (although elements still remain) and Set is more of the antagonist of the ride other than the mask. Nearby the ride is Indiana Jones Adventure Supply, which sells Indiana Jones-themed merchandise.

    Once all of the clues are collected, you venture up to this huge Egyptian temple, where you are let in by explorers. There, you are part of the incredible attraction Indiana Jones and the Tomb of Many Treasures, which has a similar ride system to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, except you are armed with lights and lasers to guide your way into the temple. In here, you journey with Indiana Jones into the lost tomb, searching for the mysterious Treasure of the Gods while facing off with a rival Nazi expedition party. This attraction would be on a scale Disney has never done before. If you don't want to have to do all of the exploration stuff to get in, just ask around the market for a secret "key" to getting in.

    When first coming up with Adventure World (then Roller Coaster World), I just threw Adventure Outpost (then called Egypt) in. However, over time, I decided to give it an Indiana Jones theme and that made it a little more real. I changed the name to Adventure Outpost later on. I also wanted to include the SEA (Society of Explorers and Adventurers) from Tokyo Disneysea and Hong Kong Disneyland, but I ultimately chose not to include it what with the time gap between the 1890s-1910s and the 1930s.
