Adventure World: World Bay

 

    The entrance to the park is through World Bay, a global-celebrating area based off of Edwardian England (1901-1914). The area resembles the London harbor of the era, and even has a world's fair that you can attend and learn about other countries in. Here is where every adventure starts, and it'll only get better from here.

    Through the opening gates, you enter down a main street with a big, spinning globe with Mickey Mouse on a boat over it. Left from the street goes around a few of the buildings where shops and restaurants are found. Down the main street is the Can You Imagine That Store, Rose and Crown Pub, World Traveler's Market on the left and the Adventure is Out There Store, and Spoonful of Sugar Candy Store.     On the left is a pond where there are eleven exhibits based off of places in the world, similar to Epcot's World Showcase. There are eight pavilions around the pond, which are (clockwise) Morocco, which contains the Abu Sah Glasswork Shop, the Grand Bazaar, and the Spice Road Table, Mexico, which has the Mexico Folk Arts Gallery, San Angel Cantina, Fiesta Favors, and La Mucho Cava, Japan, which features Teppan Edo and Tokyo Treasures, Canada, which has Golden Leaf Restaurant and Mountain Ranger Mercantile, Russia, which has Petrograd Prizes, Tsarina Pub, and Sights of Russia, Brazil, which has the Olympic Store, Carnivale Stop, and Rio de Janiero Bistro, Australia, home of Auggie's Steakhouse and Kangaroo and Koala Gift Shop, and finally, Ireland, with Mulligan's House of Beef and Lucky Stone Store.

    To the right is a park and a street resembling Cherry Tree Lane from Disney's Mary Poppins. You can meet Mary herself in the park and also catch some Dancing Chimney Sweeps in the area too. In a house marked with the Wilderness Explorer flag is one of five places where you can sign up for Wilderness Explorers, a park-wide self-guided adventure where you can collect badges, similar to the version in Disney's Animal Kingdom. There are around 80 badges to collect, all of which are scattered across the theme park. You can even go inside the Banks house, where The Practically Perfect Adventures of Mary Poppins is, a Peter Pan's Flight-style dark ride that takes you on a journey through the story of Mary Poppins, also with some elements from its sequel, including an ocean in a bathtub, an upside down house, and dancing lamplighters.

    Finally, up near the harbor, where the three places meet the water, there is a small market area. Freddy's Fishhouse offers seafood. Near here, you can explore a boat in S.S. Victoria Explorations or board a streamer line to European Harbor on an Adventure World Streamer Line boat. Near the World Showcase, you can see the Character Greeting Spot, where Mickey, Minnie, Duffy, Donald, Pluto, and Daisy meet. This also is near the bridge to Asian Gulf. Near Cherry Tree Lane, you will find Sailaway Suppliers, a gift shop in a dockhouse, and you will be near the bridge to California Coast. This is also near the stage where you can sit to watch the Adventure World Water Parades in the daytime and Fantasmic at night.

    World Bay's development history was very fluid. It didn't really have a theme when first introduced in the book, and then I decided to have it be a Renaissance-style Italian harbor like in Tokyo DisneySea, but I changed that because I thought that Italy worked better in European Harbor. I then decided to make it a retro-futuristic area, but I decided to have Discoveryland have that theme. The Edwardian London theme came at last minute, but then I decided to make it a little like World Showcase to represent some of the countries that aren't emphasized in the areas.
